UNESCO Christmas gala

The UNESCO Christmas gala in the Minden St. Marien Church will be the finale and the musical punch line of the jubilee year. The Regensburger Domspatzen and the popular actor Christian Wolf will present a thought provoking show to conclude the historical jubilee year. "As war arises in people’s souls, peace must also be anchored in people’s souls" –   under UNESCO's central theme the Minden concert will conclude the historical jubilee year.

In the year of the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Minden, the Richard Wagner society will give a very special gift to the town: The renowned British director John Dew will stage „Lohengrin“ in the Minden town theatre. With this opera event in the jubilee year the North West German Philharmonic will once again be profiled as a strong sounding opera orchestra. Verena Laffrentz Wagner, the granddaughter of the great composer himself, has taken on patronage for the Minden production.

Memorial concert on the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Minden
Together with guest choirs from England and France, the church choir of the Christian church of Minden-Todtenhausen will perform a choir and orchestra concert in memory of the 250th anniversary of the battle. The cantata „Dona nobis pacem“ by the Englishman Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958) will be contrasted with the „Ode über den Sieg von Thonhausen bey Minden” (“Ode about the victory of Thonhausen near Minden“) and the letter of the English soldier Thomas Thomsen from the military hospital Minden from 18th August 1759 as well as the requiem of the Frenchman Maurice Durufle (1902-1986).
   

„Minden´s 1st last night of the proms“

On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Minden, a piece of British music culture will come to life in Minden. The North West German Philharmonic will perform “Minden´s 1st last night of the proms“ open air concert in front of the historical backdrop of the 1200 year old Minden Cathedral. While the work of French and German composers will be played in the first part of the concert, the second part will be in the style of the traditional London concert format “Last Night of the Proms“.
